Web-based Learning Environment for Batch Control

Implementation: Seppo Kuikka, Outi Laitinen

Funding: Ministry of Education

Duration of the project: 2001 - 2003

During this project we have developed a study module for batch control and a suitable web-based learning environment for it. We have carried out the project in three phases from which the last one is under way.

First phase: year 2001

During the first year of development we created a course, 760550 Batch Control. The work of creation took in a lot of job like constructing materials, creating exercises, a project assignment and lectures and so on. We also built a web-based learning environment for this course using WebCT. All this required research work in batch control, learning in general and web-based learning environments in particular. This project is documented in Outi Rask's master's thesis called Learning Environment of Batch Control (2002, written in Finnish).

Second phase: year 2002

In the year 2002 the course was one of pilots of the Virtual University of Tampere University of Technology. During this year we developed the course further: e.g. we changed the course platform from WebCT to A&O (developed in Tampere University of Technology), developed further the material and the project assignment.

Third phase: year 2003

In the year 2003 the course is once again one of the Virtual University's pilots. During this year it is meant to complete the work of development.
